Dear Cranwellians,

There will no doubt be further reports of the reunion on the web site, but I wanted to record immediately my appreciation to all the organising volunteers for once  again providing a splendid weekend.

The weather was perfect, the organisation from the welcoming reception in the Rotunda to the Jack Holt award ceremony on Sunday truly faultless, and the sunset ceremony with the Central Band and Spitfire and  Hurricane fly past on Saturday evening, magnificent.

My other reason for this letter to you is to make you aware that Sir Richard Johns proposal to the CA members attending the Commandant's briefing on Saturday afternoon that we commemorate our centenary in 2020 by erecting a statue of the College founder Lord Trenchard was very well received.

There may indeed be other things that we can do to celebrate this event which will further our charitable objectives, but if the statue is to be the centrepiece  of our efforts, we need to move ahead now. Accordingly, trustees will meet shortly to set in motion the necessary steps towards the centenary and the commissioning of the statue, and these will be communicated , canvassing ideas and support, to all CA members.

I, personally, can think of no more suitable way to strengthen our heritage objectives than to recognise the founder of our Service and The Royal Air Force College in this way; I hope you agree,

Yours sincerely

Mike Graydon
