Dear Cranwellians,

A very warm welcome to the new Commandant Air Cdre Suraya Marshall Your trustees and committee look forward to working with her as we enter the new decade, in which we shall celebrate the Centenary of the founding of the Royal Air Force College Cranwell.

You will be aware that the Cranwellian Association, with invaluable support from the Commandant and staff at Cranwell, launched and guided a project to erect a statue of the founder, Lord Trenchard, in a unique location overlooking the parade ground at Cranwell.

A great many of you have made much appreciated contributions to the statue fund, and the project team, led by Air Marshal  Sir Chris Coville, has worked tirelessly to take the project forward.

I am both proud and delighted to announce the success of the project, culminating in the formal unveiling ceremony which will be the focus of the Cranwellian Association Weekend on 20 / 21 June 2020.

I believe that this superb statue of Lord Trenchard  will be a fitting  celebration of our heritage, and a refocus for our service in which Cranwell becomes the alma mater for all those who pass through it, and in which the CA in partnership with the Royal Air Force has a sustained and valued role to play.

I can report now that the CA is making an important and recognised contribution to our service, and introducing on the website a level of information and involvement with alumni which has not existed before. Moreover, there is more in hand on which we will report during this centenary year.

I therefore urge you to view this year as the springboard for a great future for our Association. Your presence at our reunions is always welcome and this special event in our history, the unveiling of the Trenchard Statue, will I hope be the catalyst for a record attendance.

With that in mind, the Cranwellian Weekend 2020 will embrace a somewhat different, though rather special, format than in previous years.

Invitations will follow, but do please put the date in your diaries.

Do please use the web site for both information and contribution; with your input it will be a living thing, recording memories, adding to our historical base and keeping the thousands of retired service men and women in touch with to-days air force.

I very much hope that you will be able to attend what, I am sure, will be a very special occasion in June at the College which means so much to us all,
